Cheveux dangereux

One of my many morning pick-me-ups is something our household has termed, ‘Les cheveux dangereux’ or loosely translated as dangerous hair or more commonly known as Bed Head.

As the mother of a teenager, I can attest to the fact that Hollywood lies to us on a regular basis about how perky and friendly teenagers are in the early mornings.  To be perfectly fair, not all adults are at their friendliest before their second early morning coffee either.  However, mornings at our house are not always easy as those lauded by the silver/TV screen.

My teenager believes in the liberal use of hair product but does not adhere to a schedule that is compatible with showering before going to bed.  This causes his hair to be wildly unique every morning.  Some mornings have hair that will behave with a light brushing, other days a wire brush is required and on my favourite mornings, nothing but copious use of more hair product will do.  It is these mornings that bring a smile to my face and cause me to keep my distance from my son and his ‘do’ as I prefer to keep both my eyes safe and in my head.  If you get too close, abrasions, eye pokes, velcro-esque magnetism and the destruction of silk scarves has been known to occur.

I can’t help but smile on those mornings where my teenager only awakens with the fourth wake-up call and makes a mad dash to the bus stop to catch the last bus that will deposit him at school on time, sporting extreme ‘cheveux dangeux’ or bed head.

It is on those mornings that I sit in the kitchen and savour my second cup of coffee with a smile on my face.

Powered by positive smiles.
