Hats With Floppy Ears

My most recent pick-me-up moment took place while riding the bus.  It had been a long day at work and my day was not yet over.  I was feeling a little tired, a little blue and was in that mind numbing state that takes over when you ride the city bus.  Any ray of sunshine would have been appreciated.

At the next stop, the bus pulled over, opened its doors and on bundled all of the frozen travellers.  This group included two girls, grades 6 – 8 age.  One of the girls had a hat made of traditional wool sock knit.  It was a bunny with long floppy ears.  She was smiling and laughing with her friend and was bobbing down the aisle almost bouncing like Tigger from Winnie the Pooh.  Her bounce made the floppy ears of her hat bob up and down in a most ridiculous fashion.  I don’t know what started what, whether the bobbing made the ears flop or the flopping of the ears caused the bobbing.  Regardless, this young person sporting a beatific smile and rosy cold cheeks with her bobbing floppy rabbit ears was my ray of sunshine.  I couldn’t help but smile.

My day was brightened in an instant, by someone I didn’t know, on a public bus and without their knowledge.  Simple pleasures make the world a better place and my bus ride was much improved by the power of the positivity of a hat with floppy ears.
