Ridiculous Rubber Boots

Spring has sprung and my shoes are squishy.

After the darkness of winter and the grey of almost spring, I am more than ready to greedily absorb any and all extended hours of sunlight.  The sun is so enticing that I now opt to walk home from work to get that extra infusion of vitamin D.

The wind is still nippy but the sunlight is so bright and strong that the spring melt is underway.  Not quite full bore but little by little the sunlight works its magic.   The dribbles become rivulets and the rivulets become puddles and the puddles become quagmires.

My walk home from work takes me through a beautiful market area full of funky shops with well defined sidewalks and a section of grassy verge devoid of any solid definition.  My walk home is therefore not predictable.  It starts out dry and firm and depending on the intensity of the sun, the second half of my walk home may be through a quagmire of slushy mush.  I never know in advance.  The Yin & Yang of life is bittersweet or half dry and half squishy in this case and one of my pet peeves is squishy shoes.

The miracle cure to squishy shoes is rubber boots and the miracle cure to ugly rubber boots is creativity.  Most importantly, the miracle cure to a bad day is a pair of crazily decorated rubber boots.

It doesn’t matter if you are 2 years old or 200, a pair of funky rubber boots has the power to bring a smile to your face.  The more tacky, crazy or ridiculous the boots the better.  We all look equally ungainly and ridiculous but can take heart that we are all in it together.

Spring brings many happy moments but my walks home are powered by the positivity of ridiculous rubber boots and dry toes.
