I believe that life is powered by never-ending positive events of modest proportion. Anyone can have a wonderfully positive experience if they let themselves enjoy it.
I recently rented a car. I reserved an economy sized car as I was to be travelling alone, for the advantageous gas mileage and the fact that I hate driving larger cars in the city. It makes parking annoying especially if you prefer to rent cars on a regular basis rather than own your own car. You are always having to re-adjust your perspective to not ding the car, become familiar with its ever changing size, width and length.
On this occasion, I was running late to pick up the car and got to the rental agency seconds before they locked up for the day. As I had pre-paid, they had a car waiting for me. It was the last car they had and it wasn’t an economy sized car. It was bigger.
Oh well, my fault for being tardy.
What I ended up with was a large shiny black muscle car, or that is what I thought at the time. It was a Dodge Charger with upgraded Beats speakers, dual exhaust, push button start, rather wide tires and brand new – only 3K clicks on it.
To one accustomed to driving smaller cars of late, this car was a monster. I got in, adjusted the seats, noticed that the seat fit my shorter legs quite well and that the curve in the back of the seat fell in exactly the right place (I thought that it must have been designed by a woman), adjusted the side mirrors and the rearview and drove off. In the confines of the parking garage, the car sounded mean, robust and very throaty. I had an immediate sensation of power and just had to smile. What an unexpected rush!
I had to do a fair bit of highway driving on this trip and the pleasure I experienced driving my beast of a car was intoxicating – the experience mind you, not any liquids, just to be clear. The drive was so smooth and fast. I didn’t need to apply much pressure to then be moving forward at a very aggressive velocity. In fact, I had to be diligent in making sure that I wasn’t speeding. The kilometres flew by. I didn’t notice, didn’t mind and didn’t realize it until I had arrived. It was a breathtaking or I guess I should say breath-giving experience.
I have to say that my trip was greatly enhanced by the availability of satellite radio. I was able to drive an exhilarating car, listen to wonderfully spicy Latino music (which may have contributed to the velocity of the car at times), at the volume I wanted, enjoy the comfort of well designed seats and just be.
I mentioned the velocity part to a friend of mine and he commented that I was driving a highway cop car. Delicious.
I returned from my trip more refreshed than normal, more relaxed yet full of energy and very keen on Dodge Chargers. I can’t say that I remember the drive but I remember how I felt. I shared an effervescent life experience with a car I couldn’t previously name, a company I had never purchased from before and a car rental agency that has no idea how wonderful an experience they provided me. All because I was running late……who would have thought.
If you appreciate the small experiences in life, imagine just how wonderful you will feel when something truly monumental happens. I can’t wait, plug me in.
I am powered by positive experiences.
