Ottawa has been blessed/cursed with a wet summer this year. I think I may fall into the cursed believers category because my roof needs to be re-shingled but all of the roofing companies that I have contacted are already oversubscribed and can’t fit me in until the fall. I should have looked after my roof last summer but the cost of a job well done is daunting so I procrastinated.
This wet summer has made me rue my decision several times already.
Summer rains in Ottawa are fierce but thankfully do not last long and when they are over the world is a luscious green once again. My garden looks like I am a wonderfully gifted gardener but my secret is the rain. Rain makes everything look better than it is.
What is it that Maya Angelou once said….if you can’t change your circumstances, change your attitude????
Ok, so I can’t change the rain, and have dealt with the roof and must be patient for it to be fixed so how do I change my attitude about the rain in the meantime?
Let’s see;
My favourite swimming hole is full to the brim this year
My garden is wonderfully resplendent and productive
The rain keeps the squirrels from my garden
I haven’t had to water the grass substitute (plantain and clover ground cover) in the backyard
I haven’t had to wash the car
My flowers gift me with wonderful scents after each rain
The world is clean and fresh again after each and every shower
and everything just smells great!
Not a bad list when seen through the lens of a positive attitude and it becomes a great list when embraced by a positive attitude.
I can’t get enough of the fresh air, the outdoors, the greenery and the clean streets. My dog is thankful of the rain as well as he is the beneficiary of longer though randomly scheduled walks in the outdoors. Fresh clean air, breathing, life, and contentment.
Though wet and humid, life is wonderful when powered by the positive power of summer rains.
